Physical and Socio-Emotional Domain Learning

The Physical Education Department is committed to nurturing confident participants who demonstrate positive self-efficacy and value sustainability in an active and healthy lifestyle. Through an engaging and holistic PE curriculum, students acquire skills and knowledge across a range of sports at each level, building the confidence and competence to lead active lives beyond the classroom.

Beyond games and sports, the department emphasises healthy habits, including regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and personal well-being. Students are introduced to key fitness components such as cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility, and engage in bodyweight exercises, basic gym-based training, and cardiovascular workouts — equipping them with the knowledge and skills to maintain their fitness independently and safely, laying a foundation for lifelong wellness. Physical health and safety is likewise embedded within the curriculum, with students completing first aid modules that prepare them to respond to emergencies and exercise responsibly.

Character development remains a key focus, as students build resilience, teamwork, and adaptability through Outdoor Education experiences such as outdoor cooking, tent pitching, and orienteering. These experiences develop 21st Century Competencies, particularly self-management, social awareness, and relationship management, as students learn to collaborate effectively, persevere through challenges, and make informed decisions.

Cognitive Domain Learning

Central to the 2026 PE curriculum is the Connect–Extend–Challenge thinking routine, which guides students to connect new learning to what they already know, extend their understanding of movement concepts and healthy living, and challenge themselves to think critically about sustaining an active and healthy lifestyle. This thinking frame empowers students to take ownership of their learning, reflect on their personal strengths, push beyond their comfort zones, and consider how they can better support those around them.

Through these programmes, students are given authentic opportunities to demonstrate positive self-efficacy and their commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle. The House system — Eagle, Falcon, Harrier, and Hawk — further strengthens school identity and student belonging, with House competitions providing authentic opportunities to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and perseverance, fostering a strong sense of community while reinforcing values of respect, discipline, and commitment.
