The Science Department aims to inspire Changkateers to learn with passion and develop into inquisitive, analytical thinkers who view Science for Life and Society. Guided by the Practices of Science, our students are nurtured to become curious, resilient, and reflective individuals. They engage deeply in scientific inquiry, making sense of the natural and physical world around them by exploring core scientific themes such as Diversity, Models, Interactions, and Systems. By experiencing an innovative curriculum, students grow in their ability to solve complex problems, weigh evidence, and apply their knowledge to authentic, real-world contexts. Ultimately, our programmes empower students to inquire like scientists and innovate using Science, discovering their unique passions across various scientific disciplines.

Building on our students' natural curiosity, Inquiry-Based Learning and the See-Think-Wonder routine are central to our innovative pedagogy. Through an engaging curriculum, students are fascinated by how everyday phenomena have direct scientific connections and how Science helps solve pressing global challenges. As students progress to Upper Secondary, they delve deeper into the specialised disciplines of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Through these subjects, they master advanced scientific principles, hone their practical laboratory skills, and cultivate ethical reasoning, objectivity, and a healthy scepticism.

Our Science Talent Development Programme (TDP) further nurtures students who are deeply passionate about STEM, providing rich opportunities to develop their talents through collaborative research projects and immersive learning journeys. For instance, our Lower Secondary students enthusiastically participate in the STEM Playground challenge, a platform designed to develop their application of Science in practical, real-life situations.

To stretch their potential in the pursuit of academic excellence, TDP students participate in prestigious competitions. These include the Singapore Junior Olympiads (Physics, Biology, and Chemistry) and the UNSW Global Assessment (ICAS). Furthermore, our students actively participate in the SIT-VJC Project INSPiRE 2025 to develop advanced STEM competencies. These enriching experiences seamlessly connect their learning to authentic industry applications, highlighting that Science is ultimately a highly collaborative, evidence-based human enterprise.
