Learning Outcomes:
The English Language Department aims to develop students into empathetic
communicators, discerning readers, and creative inquirers who are confident
and competent in their use of the English Language. Through their learning
in both English Language and Literature, students learn to appreciate diverse
perspectives, interpret texts critically, and make meaningful connections
between what they read and the world around them. Our students are guided
to become thoughtful and reflective individuals who can analyse characters,
themes, and ideas, while expressing their own viewpoints with clarity and
sensitivity. By engaging with a wide range of texts and learning experiences,
they grow in their ability to communicate with empathy, think critically,
and respond creatively.
To this end, the department offers structured programmes that allow students
to discover their passions across the various language domains.

The Writer’s Academy
2) Secondary 1 English Drama Workshop
3) English Literature Enrichment Workshops and Learning Journeys
Building on the positive learning experiences of our Changkateers in recent years, Drama continues to be an integral part of the Secondary 1 curriculum. In Term 2, students participate in weekly sessions where they learn to present themselves confidently and acquire the fundamentals of drama performance.
Students in the Public Speaking Programme continue to hone their talents in speech and performance, taking on active roles in various school events throughout the year. Students in the Writer’s Academy explore creative writing more deeply, while also participating in competitions and learning journeys that broaden their exposure and inspire their craft.
A highlight of the Secondary 3 curriculum is the inter-class debate, where students engage in thoughtful discourse on issues related to the theme of Law and Justice, sharpening their critical thinking and argumentation skills.
Our Literature students further deepen their appreciation of texts through enriching experiences such as dialogue sessions with writers and attending musical performances, enabling them to connect literary study with authentic, real-world contexts.
